Intense, suspenseful paragraph

The moment stood still as Shawn watched the bullet whizzed past him. His head turned just in time to watch as the bullet lodged in Connor's chest. The villain began his escape and in that second Shawn had to choose: get the bad guy or help his best friend. Feeling guilty for his hesitation, Shawn immediately ran to his childhood friend's side, calling 911 simultaneously. He looked down as a crimson stain that was blossoming from Connor's chest. Shawn didn't need a medical degree to know it was bad; he applied pressure to the wound like all the actors on TV did,  but blood continued to pour out. He heard the ambulance in the distance, and begged Connor to hold on. Connor looked at him with glazed eyes and murmured, "I'm sorry..." with his last breath. The EMTs arrived and began shouting orders at one another, and hurriedly placed Connor on a stretcher. But their effort were in vain. It's already too late.
